To caress people or things is to touch them gently, with love.

And, caresses are soft, loving touches.

You might caress your dog's head, caress your cat's soft fur, or caress your baby sibling's hands.

You might caress someone's face to show that you love them very much.

You might even caress an object, like a flower, or a necklace, if you love it. Here's Frodo, caressing his golden ring.

And, if you feel like the grass, the wind, or the sun is gently touching you, as if it loves you, you can say that it's caressing you. Even though it's not really a person with fingers! You might enjoy the caress of the sun on your face, or enjoy the caress of the breeze.

Lastly, let's focus on how to spell "caress." Just one R, and two S's. Notice how the word "care" is inside the word "caress." That's not just a cool coincidence! "Care" and "caress" are related to each other. You caress the people you care about very dearly. So when you need to spell "caress," write "care," and then add "ss."

Remember: caresses are slow, sweet, careful touches, and to caress something is to touch it in a slow, sweet, careful way.

Idea 1: "I pick up (a beloved object of some kind, like a musical instrument or a piece of jewelry), caressing (some part of it)."

Idea 2: "(Some kind of soft, beautiful sound) seems to caress my ears.”
