Or you might complain about the din at a sporting event, where the announcer is screaming through the speakers; the fans are cheering, stomping, and booing; and the air keeps ringing with whistles and bullhorns.
You might cover your ears against the din in a school cafeteria, where hundreds of children are laughing, singing, yelling, and squeaking their sneakers across the linoleum floor.
Notice how a din is an unpleasant combination of many noises all at once. If there's just one kind of noise that's annoying you, like the blast of a fire alarm, that's not a din.
And, notice how a din is a thing: a noun, not a verb or an adjective. Use the word "a" or "the" right before it. Talk about a din of angry voices, the din in a packed restaurant, or the din of a thousand birds on the beach.
