Flounces on clothing are fancy, deep ruffles. When you wear something with flounces, your clothing seems to float and bounce all around you.

But here's the meaning of "flounce" that we'll use most often. When you flounce somewhere, or flounce away from some place, you go in a fast, jerky way that shows that you're proud or happy, or mad or bothered.

This lady got mad, then flounced away.

This girl is flouncing across the room. She's tall, strong, and proud of herself.

This boy is flouncing toward us. He might be mad about something, or just bothered by something.

As you can see, when you're flouncing off or flouncing into or out of a room, you're walking with a lot of movement. It could be because you're very pleased with yourself—or it could be because you're annoyed.

Idea 1: "Wearing my very favorite (piece of clothing of some kind), I flounced into (some room or building)."

Idea 2: "After (something happened), I was so angry that I flounced away."
